Emilia Babilia

The Beginning of an Exciting Journey

Hi everyone! My name is Jessica and I’m currently 15 weeks pregnant with my first baby and I thought it’d be nice to start a blog so I can keep a diary of this wonderful experience! 🙂

Where do I start…? There are so many things I want to talk about! Let’s start with the current status of my pregnancy.

I’m now 15 weeks + 4 days pregnant and my baby bump is finally starting to show! This is a picture of my mini bump at the end of 14 weeks:

So far we’ve had 2 ultrasounds, the first one was a dating ultrasound done at 6 weeks and the second one was a NT ultrasound (to check for Down Syndrome) at 12 weeks. I shall write another post about my ultrasound experience in the near future.

At 10 weeks, we did a Non-Invasive Prenatal Test (NIPT) to test for risks of genetic diseases such as Down Syndrome, Edwards Syndrome, Turner Syndrome…etc.). The test is done by drawing and testing my blood which contains the baby’s dna. It’s truly wonderful how much technology has advanced! And as a bonus, the test tests for the baby’s gender too! We’re so happy that we got to know our baby’s gender earlier (versus via ultrasound after 16 weeks) and with much higher accuracy (>99%); it’s a GIRL!!

The NIPT test also put us at ease with extra-low results for all conditions tested 🙂

Once we know we’re having a baby girl, we started working on her name. We were thinking of Mia at first but I wanted a name that writes more sophisticated and elegant. Then came our friend Liz who suggested Emilia as a full name while keeping Mia as a nickname and we liked the idea a lot so ta-da! Our baby girl shall be named Emilia! <3

So far I’ve gained about 5 lbs in weight (3.5 lbs in the first trimester and 1.5 in the second trimester) so everything seems to be going well. We got to hear Emilia’s heartbeat through a doppler at our first OB appointment this week too and it was a marvelous experience.

We’re so very excited and we can’t wait to meet Emilia!! Meanwhile we’ll enjoy the last of our alone time with plenty of sleep 🙂
